The best mind-altering drug is truth. -Lily Tomblin
Such a realization that the power of the mind remains both controlled, and, yet, free-flowing…is rather breathtaking to ponder. That power I experienced and expressed this week…gratefully, to be able to influence my state of health and well-Being, as well as, happiness… beneficially… through my brain…the thoughts I was thinking. Our thoughts can create pain or joy, stress or calm, chaos or order…to name but a few elements that serve to manifest by what our brain is “thinking” and perceiving. The habits, and patterns, internal, as well as, external, which we have built and expressed throughout our life are responsible for bringing us to where we are today…to how we think, and the way we treat others.
It has been said that, “It’s hard to teach an old dog new tricks…just as it is, without question, impossible to change events from the past. The past is like a cancelled check. So…if it’s a challenge to change your ways…and even more difficult to rewrite history…your story of your past…then, what are we to do, as well as, BE, to Live a healthier and happier Life?
With that in mind…no pun intended…I invite You to consider that possibility of changing your perspective. Change how you view both the past and the present…and commit to reframing your expectations of your future. I invite You to change your story….by re-creating how You interpret events. The brain has a remarkable capacity to process the information we provide it with. For example, we can become Aware of and stop that negative, judgemental, and downright useless thoughts and information the very moment it shows up. We have the Power to rid ourSelves of those thoughts that do not serve us…those thoughts that surely do not contribute to our well-Being and happiness…if we choose to. We can choose words that are affirming, considerate and supportive about ourSelves, as well as, others. Yes…we have that innate Power to choose to not use destructive (non-serving) thought patterns to process what is going on in our Lives. We have the Power to Respond to Life…rather than merely react to our situations and circumstances…all the while enhancing and empowering our Selves, and those we influence and surround.
Here are some “positive thinking” examples that, perhaps, we can all benefit from being reminded of…
- Use the word “can” and throw out the “can’t”. It’s much more empowering to focus on what You can do and BE!
- Eliminate those critical and unsupportive thoughts, words and actions towards others. BE kind and considerate, beginning with your thoughts, for such will serve you, as well as, others!
- Focus on what you can control…Your thoughts, behaviors, and actions…and forget about what is simply not in your control…those thoughts, behaviors and actions of others!
