A Spiritual Orientation for Turbulent Times
There is a lot happening in the world right now.
And many of us feel it—in our bodies, our minds, and our relationships.
Spirituality does not ask us to deny what is happening. It asks us to locate ourselves in Principle first and foremost.
First Cause vs. Secondary Cause
First Cause is the nature of Reality itself—
the One Infinite and Intelligent Reality at the core of all Life.
Some call it the Divine, Spirit, or God.
I like to call it the thing that makes the grass grow.
By whatever name, it is the Presence that is always true.
Why We’re So Tired
Most human suffering right now is not because people don’t care—
it’s because we are orienting ourselves to secondary causes first.
News cycles.
Politics.
Climate anxiety.
Economics.
Social fracture.
When we begin there, our nervous systems take the lead instead of our consciousness.
If we pause and bring our awareness to First Cause first, we can respond from a more grounded space.
This isn’t spiritual bypass.
It’s spiritual order.
We don’t deny secondary causes—we simply recognize that there is something behind them that needs our initial attention.
Not to replace action, but to locate ourselves before we take action.
Because when we remember First Cause:
- We act without panic
- We speak without dehumanizing
- We stand for justice without hatred
- We engage without losing our soul
Why This Matters Right Now
When we orient ourselves to conditions before consciousness, fear takes the lead.
When we orient ourselves to First Cause, we have access to wisdom—and we can lead with Principle.
By Principle, I mean those attributes of Life that are pure and true:
Love, Peace, Harmony, Freedom, and Wholeness, to name a few.
This is the difference between reacting to the world
and participating in its healing.
A Simple Practice: Stop, Drop, Align & Respond
Before engaging events or circumstances that grab your attention:
Stop — Pause.
Drop — Breathe and shift your attention from the condition to conscious awareness.
Align — Align yourself with First Cause: God qualities, or Spiritual Principles, such as Love, Joy, Peace, Freedom, or Wisdom—those highest ideals that promote well-being and healing.
Respond — From a space within that is grounded in wisdom and supported by Spirit.
When we stop, drop, align, and respond, we make space for revealing what we want, rather than actively fighting against what we don’t want.
Revelation always precedes right action.
Revelation vs. Manifestation
One of the places we get tangled in New Thought and other spiritual philosophies is when we confuse revelation with manifestation.
We are not here to create Life.
We are here to recognize Life.
We don’t make Spirit work.
We don’t convince Life to support us.
We don’t persuade Reality to show up.
What we do is offer a lens—a consciousness—through which Life expresses.
God is already whole.
Grace is already sufficient.
The question is not, “Is God available?”
The question is, “What are we offering God to work through?”
The world needs your healing consciousness right now.
First Cause first.
