Adventure in Faith

Rev. Dave Lewis

Dr. Heather is on Sabbatical. Rev. Dave writes the feature message for this newsletter.

As someone who has been involved, in one aspect or another, in Adventure in Faith for quite some time, it would be easy to outline the inner workings of this program. The intent here, however, is to look at this event from the outside and acquaint the uninitiated with what to expect, and to clear up any doubt as to what Adventure in Faith actually is. Adventure in Faith is simply this:

Our annual program of commitment, both spiritual and financial.

During the four weeks of this program there will be numerous opportunities to examine and enhance our spirituality. These opportunities range from Sunday messages on a central, ongoing theme, to the sharing of personal experiences by members of our congregation, the presentation of art work and the sharing of spiritual practices through song and meditation.

During the month of October our Wednesday night service will be reformatted to follow the themes presented during the Adventure. Further, there will be small groups, known as "Sacred Circles," that meet in the homes of various congregants for the express purpose of building community and bonding us into new friendships.

All of the forgoing is what Adventure in Faith is in the form of events and activities. Running concurrent with this wide range of spiritual activities designed to renew and enhance our view of our spirituality is the ongoing opportunity to understand that part of our spiritual commitment is our financial support of our church center.

During the Adventure, there will be many situations in which we may confirm, or reconfirm, our commitment to the financial abundance of our church. This will begin with our Pledge Appreciation Banquet on the evening of September 30, 2007. At this time you will be invited to make your annual pledge to our church. Following the banquet, pledge cards will be available throughout the Adventure so that you may commit yourselves to the ongoing abundance of our church.

Our annual program of commitment demonstrates to us that our spiritual well-being and our financial well-being are so melded into one that they become inseparable. It is from the deep well of spirituality we find at the Capistrano Valley Church of Religious Science that we have come to enjoy the personal abundance in our experiences.

Come and join us on this Adventure and commit yourselves to the ongoing magnificence of yourselves and our church.

Rev. Dave Lewis
