The Power of Intention

Dr. Heather Dawn Clark

Dear Ones,

I'm certain that you are familiar with the saying that the road to hell is paved with good intentions. I used to be reminded of this concept by well-meaning family and friends when I didn't complete a task or something turned out differently than my conscious intentions. For instance, as a teenager I might have intended to do my homework then a friend called and asked me to go to the movies so I chose having fun with my friends. I then would suffer the consequences of homework not done. The consequences could be "hell."

The truth is I may have had an intention to do my homework but I had a stronger intention to be with my friends. The truth about good intentions is they pave the path to heaven not to hell. Everything starts with intention. Our attention comes from our real intentions.

Carlos Castaneda wrote, "In the universe, there is an immeasurable, indescribable force which shamans call intent, and absolutely everything that exists in the entire cosmos is attached to intent by a connecting link."

During the month of May, I will be discussing ideas from Wayne Dyer's new book, The Power of Intention. His basic premise is that Universal Mind is intention itself and our whole purpose is to merge our thoughts with this Mind. I would say that we need to reveal or align ourselves with this Mind. When we do we are happier, healthier and wealthier.

Dyer says that the seven faces of intention are creativity, kindness, love, beauty, expansion, unlimited abundance and receptivity. What would your life be like if you contemplated yourself as those qualities? Let's practice together.

Dr. Ernest Holmes writes that we can increase our receptivity by praying in this manner: "There is that within me which knows, understands, accepts, believes, recognizes and embodies. I know and I know that I know. I believe and I am conscious that I believe. I am confident of the power of my own word, and have implicit reliance upon the truth. I expect the Truth to operate." (Science of Mind, p. 626)

Let us apply this receptivity to all the good that we can imagine. Let's create heaven here and now.

Love,
Heather
