Celebrate Love at the Center

Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, not so convenient if you want to celebrate this day of Love. But here’s an idea: devote the weekend to love, starting with “Love Letters” on Friday evening, February 10, 7:30 p.m., at the Center for Spiritual Living Capistrano Valley. This Pulitzer Prize-nominated play by A. R. Gurney centers on just two characters, examining the growth and development of friendship and love over a period of nearly 50 years.

Melissa Gardner, played by Kimberly Wooldridge, and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, played by Wade Wooldridge sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards in which they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats that have passed between them throughout their lives.
In fact, make an evening of it! There are a number of restaurants in the area – celebrate love with dinner and a play. Take your sweetie, celebrate with friends, enjoy the evening.

Wade and Kimberly Wooldridge have been active in community theater in Orange County for the last ten years, with over forty shows between them. Join them for this special staged reading the weekend before Valentine’s Day.

The play is being offered on a “Love” Offering basis. For more information, call the center at 949-240-6463 Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Dr. Rachel Naomi Remen’s book, “My Grandfather’s Blessings” is opening my heart and mind. Dr. Remen writes exquisitely about the wisdom of her grandfather and her own approach to patients who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. She also writes about other doctors and how their presence, not their medical expertise, was often what…

  • Making Space for Meditation

Imagine living daily from that place of feeling truly “enough.” I believe it can come from meditation, the practice of acknowledging that we are greater than our culture, our judgments, and our story. I recently stumbled upon Kyle Cease. He is a former comedian who found his calling as a thought leader and wrote a…

  • Am I the Only One?

Tomorrow is Halloween and I don’t want to participate. Boo-hoo! Evidently the etiquette for not participating involves, turning your lights off, not answering your doorbell and leaving a note of explanation in the bowl filled with all the candy, encouraging the trick-or-treaters to help themselves. Last year was my first Halloween home. I decided to…

  • Mentally in the Game

Mention autumn and many people think of Friday night lights, favorite teams, tailgating, and football. As a long-time football fan, I’m right there with much of America, spending Sunday afternoons around the TV rooting for my favorite team. My husband’s favorite team is the Oakland Raiders, so in August we watched HBO’s Hard Knocks. Hard…

  • Trust in God But Tie Up Your Camel

Sometimes I resist life, just like everyone else. I was feeling stressed and overworked; then I reminded myself of the Truth. The truth is that when we surrender our resistance and blame, the good that surrounds us can come into our awareness. The spiritual truth is that we are immersed in and surrounded by Divine…

  • What Does Love Feel Like?

This past Wednesday, native American, Gene Stone presented a wonderful evening of prayers and dancing for our beloved Mother Earth. It was an amazing and soulful experience. People were asked to bring drums or rattles if they wanted. The evening began by reading The Flames of Faith. We don’t usually do that on Wednesday night,…
